Powerful and melodic, the music experiment VAR consist of four individuals rooted from Iceland.
Beginning as a singer-songwriter project for the shortest period of time, Júlíus Óttar can date VAR back to 2013. Days rather than weeks after the idea of formation, the project reached its next level when artist Myrra Rós contributed her talent and ingenuity, forming the synth and playback driven VAR.
The (soon to be husband and wife) duo released VAR´s first record in 2014 on the German label Beste Unterhaltung!, a self recorded EP in their own living room. To perform the album on a European tour, Egill Björgvinsson (older brother of Júlíus) takes on the role of bassist of VAR that same summer.
During a concert at the Iceland Airwaves in 2014, the idea of experimenting with a full band came to mind. At that point the idea was to add low-key brushes and guitar overlay to the soundscape but instead Andri and Arnór brought in the roughness of heavy rhythms and guitar-play, a key puzzle in the full and raw soundscape of VAR as it’s known today as it became the perfect platform for the band to begin the writing of new material in which everyone could claim their space in the bands soundscape.
Since VAR’s first release as a full band, two singles, Kafbátur EP in 2015 released only online, they recorded a new album, Vetur, that was be released on Itunes and Spotify aswell as their bandcamp site in January 2017.
Late 2017, Andri Freyr Þorgeirsson left the band to take on new adventures and VAR welcomed their new drummer Sigurður Ingi Einarsson, a multi talented spirit who was welcomed with open arms as he came into the band just before their tour in Japan in December 2017. Early 2018 Myrra Rós decided to step out of the band and pursue one of her many other dreams as a wing maker.
